FTC Disclosures 101 for Social Media Influencers

by Federal Trade Commission

The FTC's free plain-English guide to disclosing brand deals, gifted products and affiliate links in the US.

The scoop

If you post for brands in the US, read this. The FTC says to disclose any financial, employment, personal or family relationship with a brand, and to put the disclosure with the endorsement where it's hard to miss.

Clear words like "ad", "advertisement" or "sponsored" work, as does a simple line like "Thanks to [brand] for the free product". The guide is free to read and download as a PDF.
