The scoop

The Audio Library in YouTube Studio has free music and sound effects that won't get Content ID claims. You can filter by genre, mood, duration and whether attribution is needed, and new tracks are added twice a month.

Some tracks use a Creative Commons license, so you must credit the artist in your description. YouTube Partners can monetize videos that use Audio Library tracks.

How to claim it

  1. 1

Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Audio library from the left menu.

  2. 2

Filter by Attribution not required if you don't want to add credits.

  3. 3

Download the MP3 and add it in your editor.

Who qualifies

  • Anyone with a YouTube channel
  • Credit Creative Commons tracks in your description

Cheap essentials that go with this

People forgive average video but not bad audio. A small mic is the biggest upgrade most creators can make.

Biggest upgrade

Clip-on wireless mic for your phone

Clear voice even a few steps from the camera, without echo from the room. Check it matches your phone's port.

Best for: Voiceovers, talking-to-camera and outdoor filming

Wired lavalier mic

The cheapest way to sound better than your phone's built-in mic. Nothing to charge.

Best for: Creators on a tight budget

Acoustic foam panels

A few panels behind or beside you cut the echo that makes home recordings sound thin.

Best for: Recording voiceovers at home
